► When you hear the word ''evolution,'' it's easy to think of a very big picture. You might imagine small cells changing and evolving into plants, fish, dinosaurs, monkeys, apes, and finally, humans.✦

► These big changes don't happen on their own. They happen when our instructional material, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), is mutated, or changed. When the DNA sequence of a gene is changed, the resulting protein may be altered as well. These small mutations can build up over time and result in big changes in an organism. These changes at the DNA level are part of molecular evolution.✦
